ST Anne’s School is a 500-place upper primary school for 7- to 11-year-old students. The school serves the northern district in Gibraltar. Orfila Architects were responsible for the complete rebuilding of the new school, on the site of a previous existing school, which inspired learning and treasured by the local community.

A good brief is the foundation for the success of any building project, therefore, working closely with the Ministry of Education, Orfila Architects designed a dynamic eye-catching building that would deliver a functional,efficientand easy to maintain building within budget all under one roof. The brief and the site offered an opportunity to create a building echoing the quality and breadth of a School of excellence in education, marrying a modern outlook in a building that fit comfortably into its unique site.

The new school facilities included:

  • Teaching spaces arranged to create departmental hubs with a minimum of 20 classrooms and adaptable for future expansion.
  • Shared facilities to include a hall/ and dining room which can be opened into one space suitable for more than 600 seated pupils, library and ICT areas.
  • Sports and leisure facilities included a multi-use indoor sports hall and outdoor pitches at ground and top terrace level.
  • The school is on three levels with an incorporated eco-friendlygreen wall design that faces Winston Churchill Avenue.
